Quinta de Rana Urban Park
The Quinta de Rana Urban Park is a continuation of restoring the dignity of the architectural heritage of the County, as reflected in the remains of a recreational structure of the fifth, still with the agricultural component and marked by the irrigation system and water use.
In order to allow the visitation and use of this space, new areas were developed program that, although present, do not compete or overshadow the historical legacy and his genius locis.
The project is being developed on two acres, which includes part of the old farmhouse and an adjacent area on the east, probably former agricultural area affects the own farm.
Well-differentiated nature of the space inside the walled and fifth reflects a rigid spatial organization based on a metric of the flower beds, retaining walls, elevated aqueducts, tanks and irrigation canals. Structural axes are also defined by the central line of drainage, paths involving the beds and the high walls. In the adjacent area is spacious and without giving him a specific program or condition.
The project aims to develop attitudes and explore the intrinsic characteristics of the place, valuing the heritage, historical references, water as the dominant element and switching environments space closed / open.
The proposal strives to recover what is possible from historical and cultural heritage, and to recreate a contemporary structures that, although note the use and function, are
destroyed and unable to meet the objective that was once attributed to them.
The surrounding area will support the future school equipment, and is assumed as a large open space for recreation, considering areas of meadow, lawn and playground.
It also incorporates a coffee shop, to create a dynamic use of the visitation and support, needed to surroundings and arouse interest in the enjoyment of natural areas.
In both areas the intervention is intended to be minimalist structures and enhance conduction of water and its function. Using water as a unifying element of the space, covering it from the complex system of aqueducts and gutters until you reach a line that feeds the more naturalized water mirror the cafeteria.
The Butterfly
Built on the site is also the The Butterfly, an equipment to free guided tours or used as a place of study of butterflies in their various states of development, the preservation of species and environmental education. The space is visually distinguished by being a unique structure that refers to the visual image of a chrysalis stage of metamorphosis. In this space coexist different species of Lepidoptera, including different regions of the country.
It should be noted, finally, that this intervention is intended as a unit, supported by the conceptual solutions adopted in the rationalization of building techniques and finally, the inert materials and selected vegetables.

Parque Urbano da Quinta de Rana
O Parque Urbano da Quinta de Rana dessenvolve-se na sequência de restabelecer a dignidade do património arquitectónico do Concelho, patente no que resta de uma estrutura de quinta de recreio, ainda com a componente agrícola bem marcada pelo sistema de irrigação e aproveitamento da água.
No sentido de permitir a visitação e uso deste espaço, desenvolveram-se novas valências programáticas que, embora actuais, não competem ou ofuscam o legado histórico e o seu genius locis.
O projecto desenvolve-se sobre 2 hectares, que inclui parte da antiga quinta e uma área adjacente a Nascente, provavelmente antiga zona agrícola afecta à própria quinta.
De cariz bem diferenciado, o espaço murado e interior da quinta reflecte uma organização espacial rígida baseada na métrica dos canteiros, muros de suporte, aquedutos elevados, tanques e canais de rega. Estruturantes são também os eixos definidos pela linha de drenagem central, caminhos que envolvem os canteiros e os muros elevados. Na área adjacente, o espaço é amplo e sem referências que lhe confiram ou condicionem um programa específico.
A atitude projectista pretende desenvolver e explorar as características intrínsecas do lugar, valorizando o património, as referências históricas, a água como elemento dominante e a alternância de ambientes espaço fechado/aberto.
A proposta prima por recuperar o que for possível do património histórico e cultural, e em recriar de uma forma contemporânea estruturas que, embora se perceba o uso e função, estão
destruídas e incapazes de cumprir com o objectivo que lhes foi em tempos atribuído.
A área adjacente servirá de apoio ao futuro equipamento escolar, e assume-se como um amplo espaço aberto de recreio, contemplando zonas de prado, relvado e parque infantil.
Integra também uma cafetaria, de forma a criar uma dinâmica de utilização e suporte à visitação, necessária para dar envolvência e despertar o interesse pelo usufruto dos espaços naturais.
Em ambas as áreas a intervenção pretende ser minimalista e valorizar as estruturas de condução das águas e a sua função. Utilizar a água como elemento unificador do espaço, percorrendo-o desde os aquedutos e sistema complexo de caleiras até chegar a uma linha mais naturalizada que alimenta o espelho de água da cafetaria.
Borboletário
Integrado no local está também o Borboletário, um equipamento destinado a visitas guiadas ou livres, utilizado como local de estudo das borboletas nos seus vários estados de desenvolvimento, a preservação das espécies e a educação ambiental. O espaço destaca-se visualmente por ser uma estrutura única que remete visualmente para a imagem de um casulo em fase de metamorfose. Neste espaço coexistirão diferentes espécies de lepidópteros, inclusive de diferentes regiões do país.
Salienta-se, por fim, que esta intervenção pretende constituir uma unidade, sustentada pelas soluções conceptuais adoptadas, na racionalização das técnicas construtivas e por último, pelos materiais inertes e vegetais seleccionados.
